Promoting wellbeing and combatting issues of social isolation.
This project has been delivered in partnership with HOPS Wellbeing Service and funded by Sunderland City Councils North Area committee through an SIB grant. This project provided a variety of classes and activities aimed at people over 50 designed to promote wellbeing and combat issues of social isolation.
The project provided an exciting way to combine CEED’s work and experience, the benefits to wellbeing of being outdoors, in a green environment with HOP’s experience of delivering a range of complementary activities.
A range of wellbeing sessions – including Meditation, Singing for Health and Happiness and Tai Chi were delivered at HOPS, in Roker Park. Participants also accessed taster complementary therapy sessions, including Massage, Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Shiatsu and Reiki/Healing. CEED delivered sessions focused on horticulture, growing your own vegetables and herbs and understanding nature. The sessions were split between the outdoor yard area at HOPS and Roker Park. Gardening activities were offered in a form suitable to the needs and abilities of the individual. The combined programme of therapies and classes benefited people through providing the chance to be active, enjoy the outdoors, socialise, reflect and relax. With social integration at its heart, the project was a huge success and the numbers attending the sessions far exceeded the initial planned outcomes.
Wellbeing Together is currently due to finish June 2015, however watch this space for future developments.
